Hayling Island

Wonderful Hayling Island

Hayling Island is only a small island, but it has much to offer to resident or visitor alike.

Hayling's combination of rural and marine environments has left us a legacy of unique natural history and its compact size provides easy access on a level terrain to anywhere on the island.

Hayling Island also has over 3 miles of beaches right on the doorstep of the Solent as well as the Harbours of Langstone and Chichester. With its safe open spaces, fresh air and sheltered waters, Hayling Island has much to offer those that enjoy sports of all kinds, whether on land or at sea.

The Island has an exceptional sunshine record and low annual rainfall.

Blue Flag beaches - Hayling Island is the only place in Britain to qualify for two Blue Flags on it’s five mile seaside shore.

Sports on Hayling Island

Windsurfing

This is a windsurfers and sailors paradise and the seascape is interesting as the sails flip and change direction in the breeze. Truly a destination for world class sailing.

With its safe open spaces set surrounded by plenty of fresh air and sheltered waters, Hayling Island has much to offer those that enjoy sports of all kinds.

Sheltered by the Isle of Wight, the waters of the Solent offer perfect conditions to those who enjoy sailing, windsurfing, power boating, jet skiing, kitesurfing and other water sports. It should then come as little surprise that windsurfing was invented on Hayling Island and the Island has since become an international venue for sailing.

Hayling also caters well for those who enjoy their sports a little drier. Hayling Island's Seacourt is the only club in the country offering all five racket sports. For those wanting to take in our famous sea air outdoor sports as diverse as bowls and skateboarding are also catered for.

Sailing

The Solent is one of the most popular cruising areas in the UK. It`s unique combination of sheltered waters and abundant marinas make this a perfect location for sailing whether you are an  experienced or novice sailor.

Sea Fishing

Favoured areas include Eastoke Corner in the east along the seafront drive, the fun fair and ‘Inn on the Beach’ behind the sign-posted par3 golf course in the west. Beware of the sheltered boardsurfing area to the West of the 'Inn on the Beach'

Local fishing and fresh bait shop Paige’s Fishing Tackle.

Walking

Walking around Langstone Harbour. This popular walk round Langstone Harbour is about thirteen miles and takes in a ferry ride and the Farlington Marshes RSPB Nature Reserve.

Many popular walks exist both on the Island and around the shorelines of nearby Langstone and Chichester harbour. Ideal for birdwatching.

The Hayling Billy Leisure Trail Once the old railway line between Havant and Hayling Island, this coastal leisure trail is now used by walkers, cyclists and horse riders alike.

Places of interest to visit in the area

Portsmouth Historic Dockyard where HMS Victory, the Mary Rose and HMS Warrior can be viewed are only a ferry and bus ride away.

Portsmouth is Britain's only island city and home to the British Royal Navy for more than 500 years. The mix of historic ships, castles, forts, museums and narrow side streets recall a medieval community huddled within the town walls.

The cathedral town of Chichester; Fishbourne Roman Palace and the picturesque fishing villages of Emsworth and Bosham are within easy reach.
